PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a descaling method for manufacturing a coiled stainless steel wire rod which does not cause a pit on its surface and has a white and glossy surface. SOLUTION: This descaling method comprises the steps of: shot-blasting the stainless steel wire rod kept in a coiled state while controlling a scale layer on the surface of the stainless steel wire rod to a thickness range of 5 to 10μm to leave the scale layer without completely removing it; and then subjecting it to pickling treatment. For instance, the pickling treatment comprises first pickling treatment, salt treatment and second pickling treatment. The pickling liquid includes hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid. There are two acidic liquids having different concentrations. One has comparatively high acid concentration in a range of 20 to 25 wt.% and the other has comparatively low acid concentration in a range of 5 to 15 wt.%. One or two pickling liquids are selected from the above liquids and are used for the pickling treatment of one-step or two-step. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
