The cleaning device has an endlessly revolving cleaning belt (15) with brush fitment which can be brought into contact with the surface being cleaned. The belt runs over two spaced guide rollers (13,14) whose axes are parallel to the cylinder face and one of which is drivable. The two guide rollers can be coupled to a common rotational drive or can be coupled to a change drive (24) and driven to and fro in synchronous movement in the axial direction.
