The invention relates to a novel imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivative compound represented by the formula (I) and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The invention also relates to a method of producing the compound. The invention further relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound. The compound has a growth inhibiting activity against a cancer cell, and further, the activity is distinct from a growth inhibiting activity against a normal cell. Therefore, it is useful as a novel anticancer agent.
