<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the electrification of a developer layer before the developer is electrified by an electrifying member, and to prevent uneven electrification of the developer. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus includes; a rotatable developer carrier 2 placed opposite to an image carrier 1 which carries an electrostatic latent image and carrying the developer G on the surface thereof; a developer supply member 3 arranged away from the developer carrier 2 and supplying the developer G carried on the surface to the developer carrier 2 in reply to the application of a supply bias 4 between the member 3 and the developer carrier 2 for promoting the supply of the developer to the developer carrier 2; an electrifying member 5 arranged on the downstream side of the developer supply member 3 in the developer conveying direction of the developer carrier 2 and controlling the electrification of the developer G on the developer carrier 2 in reply to the application of an electrification bias 6 between the member 5 and the developer carrier 2 for electrifying the developer G; and a developer layer adjusting means 7 for adjusting the surface potential of the developer layer to be 10V or less as an absolute value before the developer is electrified by the electrifying member 5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
