PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface machining method which makes stock allowance of both surfaces of workpiece uniform even if ground amounts become different between both grindstones, limits the stock allowance (single side stock allowance) of respective surfaces of the workpiece within a predetermined stock allowance, also limits the nitrogen concentration of the both surfaces of the workpiece within a predetermined range, and gives wear resistance to both surfaces of the workpiece, when machining the workpiece treated by carbonitriding with a double-disc surface grinding machine, and also to provide a thrust bearing raceway ring machined by the surface machining method. SOLUTION: In the surface machining method, the workpiece 1 treated by carbonitriding is machined with the double-disc surface grinding machine 10. After the workpiece 1 is machined to an intermediate dimension T1 with respect to the machining completion dimension T2, it is turned over and is machined again up to the machine completion dimension T2.
