993,169. Filters for liquids. W. BUDDEBERG, R. FISCHER, A. MANN, and H. RUMPELT, [trading as KRAUSS-MAFFEIIMPERIAL G.m.b.H. & CO.]. June 4, 1962 [June 8, 1961], No. 21525/62. Heading B1D. A rotary-drum vacuum filter comprises a rotatable filter drum 1, a plurality of endless chains or cords 3 engaging with the peripheral surface of the drum and pulleys 4, 5, and three groups of pipes 15, 16, 17 through which a proportion of liquid to be filtered is periodically withdrawn from a trough 2 into an auxiliary vessel 10 and subsequently returned to the trough, the pipes in each group having different lengths whereby the coarsest particles suspended in the liquid are concentrated in a region 18 adjacent a point 6 where the chains or cords enter the liquid. The coarsest particles are thereby the first particles to be deposited on the chains or cords to form a filter cake as liquid is sucked into the drum, the finer particles being subsequently deposited on the cake as the chains or cords progress towards a point 7 where they emerge from the liquid. Suction and pressure are alternately applied to vessel 10 through pipes 11, 12 respectively. The cake is discharged from the chains or cords at pulley 4. |
