PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a banknote handling apparatus for optimally assigning storage parts in response to the usage state of each user, while miniaturizing the whole apparatus. SOLUTION: The banknote handling apparatus 1 comprises temporary collection/storage parts 17a, 17b, 17c, 17d and 17e including: temporary collection parts 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d and 8e for temporarily collecting banknotes; and banknote storage parts 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d and 9e which are arranged under the temporary collection parts 8a-8e so as to receive the banknotes temporarily collected in the temporary collection parts 8a-8e and to store them. The temporary collection/storage parts 17b, 17c are vertically arranged by overlapping. The temporary collection/storage parts 17d, 17e are vertically arranged by overlapping.
