<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power supply device wherein an overcurrent protection function is prevented from being unintentionally actuated when a capacitive load is started and the power supply device itself and further the load can be properly started. <P>SOLUTION: The power supply device includes a switch element (e.g. FET) 2 inserted in, for example, a power supply line (large current path) from a battery to a load; an overcurrent detection circuit having an auxiliary switch element (e.g. FET) 12 that forms a small current path in parallel with the large current path, and a controlling element 11 that, when a current is passed through the small current path, causes the switch element to perform off operation; and a controlling means that, when the load is started, causes the auxiliary switch element to perform on operation to form the small current path. When the load is started, power is supplied to the load through the small current path.
