<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a return from a power-saving mode with small power consumption and adequate display, by deciding the details of the factor of the return from the power-saving mode, on the operating section side of a digital copying machine etc. <P>SOLUTION: When data are inputted from an external interface 33 or a reset factor sensor 34 in the power-saving mode, the power-saving mode is canceled. Further, the power-saving mode is canceled by operating an apparatus body. A request for canceling the power-saving mode is reported from the ASIC 32-1-4 of a system control section 32-1 to an operation section control section 31-1 with a PWM signal, through an exclusive report signal line 39. The operation section control section 31-1 decides whether the request to cancel the power-saving mode is based on data input from external equipment or based on the operation of the apparatus body. When the exclusive signal line 39 is at H level or L level for a certain period, the state is decided as being abnormal.
