<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell with an increased power generation efficiency by enlarging a contact area between a metal separator and a gas diffusion layer molded through an overhanging process. <P>SOLUTION: The solid polymer fuel cell has catalyst electrode layers 12, 13 and gas diffusion layers 14, 15 laminated on fuel and oxidation electrode sides of a polymer ion-exchange membrane 11, respectively, and with membrane-electrode assemblies partitioned by metal separators 20 produced through the overhanging process as unit cells. The gas diffusion layers 14, 15 each have shapes so that parts contacted with metal separator 20 wraps around an overhanging part 21 thereof. The shapes wrapping around the overhanging part 21 are imparted to the gas diffusion layers 14, 15 by forming a double-layered structure in which a separator side gas diffusion layer 25 provided with an opening 27 to house the overhanging part 21 therein is overlapped to an ion-exchange membrane side gas diffusion layer 26, or by forming a concavity 28 to house the overhanging part 21. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
