PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber with a mechanism for independently adjusting damping force during contraction and elongation, having simple and easy-to-manufacture construction. SOLUTION: The damping force adjustable shock absorber comprises a cylindrical shell case 30, a piston rod 21, a piston valve 20, a bulkhead 11, and a free piston 14. A joint rod 14 is fixed through a base cover 13 to slidably penetrate a free piston 12, and it is connected to the bulkhead 11. A damping force adjusting unit 10 comprises the base cover 13, the joint rod 14, the free piston 12, and the bulkhead 11. It is detachably mounted on the shell case 30. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
