PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption in a display device in which displaying is conducted by moving a colorless transparent liquid between electrodes. SOLUTION: When the lower side of the colorless transparent liquid 13 is mainly moved to the left side and is attached to the upper face of a white layer 8, while the upper side of the liquid 13 remains in a state of being attached to the lower face of an insulating film 4 due to the surface energy of an inner wall face of a side wall 10, external light passes through the liquid 13 and is reflected on the white layer 8, then a white display is produced. On the other hand, when the lower side of the liquid 13 is mainly moved to the right side and is attached to the upper face portion of a black layer 9, the external light passes through the liquid 13 and is absorbed in the black layer 9, then a black display is produced. In this case, the display colors are mainly changed by the movement of only the lower side of the liquid 13, so the frictional force is alleviated compared with the case in which the display colors are changed by the movement of the liquid as a whole, and further the power consumption is reduced.
