PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens whose zoom ratio is about 3, which is a wide-angle lens that a viewing angle at a wide angle end is about 60°, and which has high image forming performance, realizes the miniaturization of a lens barrel, and reduces color bleeding as a compact high-performance two-group zoom lens or three-group zoom lens whose negative group is a preceding type. SOLUTION: The zoom lens has a 1st lens group G1 having negative refractive power and a 2nd lens group G2 having positive refractive power, and performs variable power from the wide angle end to a telephoto end by changing space between the respective groups. The 1st lens group G1 is constituted of one negative lens L<SB>11</SB>and one positive lens L<SB>12</SB>, and satisfies a condition about the refractive index and the Abbe number of the lenses.
