PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus capable of increasing a light volume incidence to a light volume detecting means. SOLUTION: By switching an optical path of a laser beam emitted from a facial light emitting laser 34 toward a polygon mirror 42 or a light volume detecting apparatus 48 by an optical path changing apparatus 40, the light volume incidence to the light volume detecting apparatus 48 can be increased in comparison with a case where the laser beam emitted from the facial light emitting laser 34 is divided by a half mirror and the divided laser beams are respectively made to enter the polygon mirror 42 and the light volume detecting apparatus 48. Therefore, it is possible to improve detecting accuracy of the light volume by the light volume detecting apparatus 48. In addition, by controlling the light volume of the facial light emitting laser 34 based on the detecting result by the light volume detecting apparatus 48, the light volume is made uniform and the image forming apparatus which gives no influence on the image quality can be obtained.
