<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of a minute short circuit caused by whiskers or burrs of substrates of a positive electrode and a negative electrode, and enhance the reliability of a battery. <P>SOLUTION: An alkaline storage battery is comprised of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, a separator interposed between them, and an electrolyte. The separator has a nonwoven fabric as the main composition, and high fiber density portions are partially present in the separator.
