<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and a method and a program improving the accuracy of texture classification by improving a resolution in the angle direction as compared with a conventional apparatus and a method in image texture characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a first steerable filter; a second steerable filter obtained by the Hilbert transformation of the first steerable filter; a texture direction calculation section for calculating the texture direction from each filtering result as a texture feature on a scale-by-scale basis of an image; an edge extraction section for obtaining an edge point by calculating strength in the texture direction on a pixel-by-pixel basis, and for extracting an edge from the edge point; and a database for storing the texture feature on an image-by-image basis, at least based on the texture direction and intensity in the texture direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
