PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus capable of accurately specifying a home position of a carriage without striking the carriage against a frame or the like from a condition that a moving position (absolute position) of the carriage is not clear. SOLUTION: A first part M1 to be detected and a second part M2 to be detected are arranged by a specified interval (L), and the width in the main scanning direction of the first part M1 to be detected and the width in the main scanning direction of the second part M2 to be detected are relatively different (L1>L2). The first part M1 to be detected is arranged so as to be detected by a PW sensor 34 even under a condition that the carriage 61 is located at the outermost end on one side of a region of reciprocating movement in the main scanning direction X. The second part M2 to be detected is arranged so that the stopping position of the carriage 61 coincides with the home position HP under a condition that the detecting position of the PW sensor 34 in the main scanning direction X coincides with the central position in the main scanning direction X of the second part M2 to be detected.
