A rod-shaped probe (3) fixed along the wall inside the container using several holding plates (6) and insulators (5) is a capacitive electrode and forms a unit with an evaluation unit (1). The measurement value display is arranged away from the evaluation unit and is transferred to a remote measuring station via cables or in a wire-free manner.
