The piston ring comprises a rear cutting (8) that has nose edge (3) with a tapered running surface region (2) that has a perimeter surface (6 that holds a pipe clip (7). There are upper and lower flanks (4, 5) in which there is a slit formed hitch. The axial height (h) of the nose edge starts from the lower flank above the radial operating line (13) of the pipe clip. The rear cutting extends from the nose edge under a prescribed angle in the direction of the upper flank and, subsequently, under a prescribed angle (alpha) in the tread-pattern side region of the lower flank. .
