Process to operate a twin roller metal strip casting assembly subject to varying crust-derived pressure variations

In a process to operate a twin roller metal strip casting assembly, hot metal is discharged into the gap between two parallel rollers. The thickness of the metal strip varies according to the target product and the gap between the rollers is altered accordingly. During the casting process crusts arise on the metal surface which impose reactive forces on the rollers. The reactive forces that are typical of each metal thickness are recorded and compared with previously known values of the rise and fall of reactive forces. The difference in actual and previous values is used to adjust the corrective pressure applied at the roller bearings.
