摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode for a lithium secondary battery having a high capacity, excellent high rate charge and discharge characteristics, and excellent cycle characteristics, and a lithium secondary battery using the negative electrode. <P>SOLUTION: This negative electrode for the lithium ion secondary battery includes a collector 2 and an active material layer 1 carried on the collector. The active material layer includes a first layer 1a and a second layer 1b alternately laminated in their thickness direction, the first layer contains silicon and a small amount of oxygen, and the second layer contains silicon and an amount of oxygen larger than that in the first layer.
