BALLOON DISSECTION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method to create an anatomic space and an apparatus and a method to create an area more natural and less bleeding by creating the anatomic space by applying force in the orthogonal direction against it and creating the anatomic space on the most fragile plane.

SOLUTION: Apparatus 31 for creating an anatomic space in tissue in a body includes an introducer device 51 having a tubular member 33 with a bore extending therethrough. A tunneling shaft assembly 46 is freely slidably mounted in the bore of the introducer device 51. The tunneling shaft assembly 46 includes a tunneling shaft having proximal and distal extremities. A blunt tip is secured to the distal extremity of the tunneling shaft. A balloon assembly 86 is provided. The balloon assembly 86 is freely attachably and detachably secured to the tunneling shaft. The balloon assembly 86 includes a deflated collapsed balloon. A sheath 106 encloses the balloon and is carried by the tunneling shaft. The sheath 106 has a weakened region extending longitudinally thereof permitting the sheath 106 to be removed to release the balloon.
