PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal compound for polymerization, to provide an aromatic vinyl compound polymer and an aromatic vinyl compound-olefin copolymer which use the compound and have isotactic stereoregularity, and to provide methods for producing the (co)polymer. SOLUTION: A transition metal compound usable as a polymerization catalyst component is represented by general formula (1). Wherein, A is a (substituted) benzoindenyl, B is a (substituted) cyclopentadienyl, a (substituted) indenyl, a (substituted) benzoindenyl or a (substituted) fluorenyl, Y has bonds with A and B and is carbon or silicon having another substituent, X is a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl, silyl, an alkoxy or a dialkylamide, and M is zirconium, hafnium or titanium.
