PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a fluorene derivative that is useful as a raw material for polymers in no need of acidic gas such as hydrochloric acid gas or the like and sulfuric acid. SOLUTION: In the presence of an solid acid such as a macroporous type ion-exchange resin and a thiol such asβ-mercaptopropionic acid, a fluorene represented by formula (1) and a phenol represented by formula (2) are allowed to react with each other to produce a fluorene derivative of formula (3) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a substituent such as an alkyl, R<SP>2</SP>is a substituent such as an alkyl, m1, m2 and n are each an integer of 0 to 4). For example, fluorene, phenol and thiol are allowed to pass through a flow-through type reactor filled with a solid acid thereby allowing the fluorene to react with the phenol.
