PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the quality of the peripheral surface of a buffed base tire constant by improving the measurement precision of a residual groove depth. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a retreaded tire T", the tread surface Ta of a used tire T is buffed, and new tread rubber G is mounted on the buffed surface and vulcanized. The method includes a process in which a laser displacement sensor 17 is moved in the tire width direction along the tread surface Ta of the used tire T to measure the profile data of the tread surface Ta, and the profile data is put into a computer 14, a process for preparing smoothed correction data by making the profile data be subjected to running average processing by the computer 14, a process for extracting a tire outside diameter in the deepest part P among the residual grooves of the tread surface Ta by the computer 14 with the use of the correction data, and a process for forming the base tire T' having a smooth peripheral surface by buffing the tread surface Ta of the used tire T so as to be at most the outer diameter of the tire at the deepest part P.
