<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical writing device whose noise prevention and heat discharge are compatible when a rotary polygon mirror is installed. <P>SOLUTION: The optical writing device 8 which deflects a light beam from a light source by the rotary polygon mirror 142 to perform a scan is equipped with: a rotary polygon mirror surrounding portion 200 which can rotatably support the rotary polygon mirror 142 and is composed of a partially open space 201; and a duct portion 210 which is attachable to and detachable from the open portion 201 of the rotary polygon mirror surrounding portion 200 and has an opening portion 210A communicating at the time of loading.
