PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering structure for an automobile at a low cost, using a plated steel plate having excellent sliding characteristic as a steel plate constituting a bracket to thereby attain excellent reliability and shock absorbing capability. SOLUTION: In this steering structure for an automobile, a column side bracket 3 and a car body side bracket 4 are relatively slid. a molten Zn-Al-Mg alloy plate steel plate having a hard surface is used at least as the steel plate constituting the car body side bracket 4, thereby improving the relative sliding characteristic of the column side bracket and the car body side bracket. Since the sliding characteristic between them is improved, the sliding distance of the column side bracket when the collision load is input can be remarkably lengthened to remarkably improve the shock absorbing capability.
