1,036,269. Oil-bath filter. AUTOTERG FILTRI S. a. S. April 8,1965 [Oct. 9,1964], No. 14971/65. Heading B1T. Air passes from an inlet 24 downwards, under the edge of a cylindrical wall 10, where it entrains oil from bath 2, and then upwards through oilwetted perforated strainers 4, and annular bath 2 is in communication, under wall 11, with a compensation chamber 15 which communicates via aperture 113 and the strainers with outlet chamber 12, whereby variation of air flow rate through the device results in varying pressure difference between inlet and outlet chambers 1, 12 so that the oil level variation in chamber 15 adjusts the gap between wall 10 and the oil surface in bath 2 to maintain a constant velocity through the gap and a constant degree of oil entrainment. Air enters inlet 24 tangentially, and outlet 23 is shielded by baffle 16. Dirty oil flowing off strainers 4 flows down cylinder 22 and solids settle out in sump 7, from whence they may be removed, the oil returning under spout 6 to bath 2. In another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the outlet 23 is at the bottom of the device and there is no sump 7. Strainers 4 may be frustoconical, as shown, or cylindrical. |
