The device has a measurement unit (5) determining altitude of top point of a vehicle (1) and/or load (3). Measurement units (6, 16) scan surfaces (4, 14) of lower and front faces of an engineering structure (2) and determine altitude of low point of the scanned surfaces. A control unit (10) generates an alarm signal when the altitude determined by the units (6, 16) is lower than the altitude determined by the unit (5).
