<p>Coating an aircraft structural component made of ferrous alloy comprises subjecting the component to a veil pretreatment (term not defined), coating the component with a hardenable organic coating material, and simultaneously heat-treating the component and hardening the coating. Independent claims are also included for: (1) improving the anticorrosion protection of a ferrous alloy substrate by applying a veil pretreatment to the substrate without subsequent chromate sealing and applying a hardenable organic coating material having a nonvolatile component that can be hardened at a predetermined heat treatment temperature of the ferrous alloy; (2) aircraft structural component made of ferrous alloy comprising a ferrous alloy precursor having a predetermined heat treatment temperature; a veil as a preteatment without subsequent chromate sealing; and a hardenable organic coating consisting of a material having a nonvolatile component that can be hardened at the predetermined heat treatment temperature of the ferrous alloy, where the precursor and the coating are heat treated simultaneously.</p> |
