PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To immediately restore logical volumes without maintenance work and the like even when a plurality of storages forming logical volumes and in a mirroring relationship fail simultaneously in a hierarchical storage system. SOLUTION: A primary storage device 30 interposed between secondary storage devices 10 and 11 and data processing devices 20 and 21 comprises a restoration part 42 for, when two or more working storage parts 31 to 34 forming logical volumes and in a mirroring relationship fail simultaneously, reading data having been recorded in the logical volumes of the working storage parts 31 to 34 from virtual logical volumes of the secondary storage devices 10 and 11 and recording them on two or more standby storage parts 35 and 36 to restore the logical volumes of the two or more working storage parts 31 to 34 on the two or more standby storage parts 35 and 36.
