Extraction of pure styrene with polymerization quality from styrene containing pyrolysis benzol fraction, by extractive distillation, comprises fractionation of the benzol fraction, in a partition column (2), into a C 8 core fraction (5), C 7- fraction (4) and C 9+ fraction; selective hydrogenation of the C 8 core fraction having phenylacetylene and extractive distillation of the C 8-fraction into styrene fraction and styrene-poor fraction.
