PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep stable performance by maintaining an engaged condition and restraining rotation of a ferrule. SOLUTION: The optical connector 11 includes a ferrule 15 for holding an optical fiber 13, an elastic member 17, and a holding member 21. The holding member 21 is composed of a pair of beams 21a, 21b, a pair of engaging sections 23a, 23b, and contact sections 25a, 15b that come in contact with a flange 15c installed in the ferrule and that holds the ferrule 15. A pair of locking sections 39a, 39b of the opposite housing 31 are composed of a pair of projections 39d, 39f which engage with the engaging sections 23a, 23b to hold the optical connector 11 on the opposite housing 31.
