<p>The invention relates to an actuator (413) for a clutch arranged between an engine and a transmission and comprising an annular cylinder part (458) located concentrically with an input shaft to the transmission, and having a cylinder chamber (427) and an annular piston (426) connected to a throwout bearing (416). A part of the hydraulic piston arrangement (454, 554) or a position-sensing mechanism (460) remote from said hydraulic chamber (423) adjoins a fluid chamber (469), which is connected to or forms a part of a connecting duct (428, 469) or cylinder chamber (427), so that in the fluid chamber (469) the control pressure from a valve arrangement (422) acts on the hydraulic piston arrangement (454, 554) with a force (470) that is opposed to the force (442) with which the fluid pressure in said hydraulic chamber (423) acts on the hydraulic piston arrangement (454, 554). Assembly and maintenance are facilitated. The friction surfaces of the clutch are well sealed off from the hydraulic fluid. Embodiments with overload protection and measurement of the thickness of the clutch plates are demonstrated.</p> |
