A DC/DC converter having a transformer (T1) is connected in parallel with a DC/DC converter having a transformer (T2). A control part (4) is included which, while shifting the operational phases of the transformers (T1,T2) of the DC/DC converters, changes the respective duties thereof to control the respective output voltages thereof. A multiplied voltage rectifying circuit is also included which comprises diodes (7-9) and capacitors (10-12) and uses the potential difference between the output voltages of the transformers (T1,T2) to generate a high voltage to be used for activating a discharge lamp (22).
