PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipe joining reference line marking tool capable of easily marking a socket length marking line and insertion length marking line on a connection pipe for each pipe size and method for joining pipe with using the pipe joining reference line marking tool. SOLUTION: The pipe joining reference line marking tool 11 is projectingly provided with a locking part 14 having a first reference surface 13 on a surface in a base plate side on one end in a longitudinal direction of a rectangular base plate 11, is provided with slits for socket length marking line 15a, 15b, 15c, 15d at a position of which distance from the first reference surface 13 corresponds to the socket length, has a second reference surface 19 on an end surface of the base plate 11, and is provided with slits for insertion length marking line 17a, 17b, 17c, 17d, 17e at a position of which distance from the second reference surface 19 corresponds to one third of the socket length, and is provided with an axial line marking slit 16 in a direction perpendicular to the first reference surface.
