PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic flicker suppressing method and an apparatus for uniformizing the quality and reducing work hours. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a DVR for changing a resistance in response to an external signal, and changes a common voltage based on the resistance value. An intensity detector detects a change in an intensity of a screen in the liquid crystal display. A resistance optimizer changes the signal to the DVR, and finds the optimal resistance of the DVR based on the change in the intensity of the screen generated by the change in the signal when the flicker is minimized. The automatic flicker suppressing method utilizes the arrangement, schematically estimates the flicker, finds an equation for indicating a relationship between the resistance of the DVR and an estimation value of the flicker, finds the minimum solution of the equation, finely estimates the flicker in the vicinity of the minimum solution, selects the optimal resistance of the DVR based on the result, and inputs the optimal resistance to the DVR.
