PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent failure cleaning an intermediate transfer body, and hence image defects. SOLUTION: An electric field for a cleaning roll 78 to attract negative-polarity toner is generated by the application of a voltage from a roll power source 82. Thereby, the negative-polarity toner sticking to the intermediate transfer body 68, 70, 72 is attracted. Meanwhile, a voltage in which a DC voltage and an AC voltage overlap is applied to a cleaning brush by a brush overlap power source 88. By the application of the DC voltage, the cleaning brush generates an electric field to attract positive-polarity toner. In addition, an electric field between the cleaning brush and the intermediate transfer body is vibrated by the application of the AC voltage, so that the cleaning brush can attract the negative-polarity toner remaining without being attracted by the cleaning roll.
