<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for speedily outputting an image of high picture quality. <P>SOLUTION: When image data are received from a digital camera, a pixel group gradation value is determined for each pixel group comprising a plurality of pixels and compared with thresholds stored for each pixel group to make a pixel group gradation value multi-valued, and obtained multi-valued result values are converted into dot data. Data of the image are received from a computer in the form of multi-valued result values for each of the pixel groups, and the multi-valued result values are converted into dot data by referring to correspondence relation where the multi-valued result values and presence/absence of dots formed in the pixel groups are related for each of the pixel groups. Consequently, even equipment having insufficient processing capability or memory is capable of receiving and converting image data from the digital camera into dot data and outputting an image.
