<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image processing apparatus capable of reducing the number of times of file seekings, by returning data having the less number of tiles for a thumbnail image having a low resolution, and allowing preferable access to a necessary partial image by returning data having a large number of tiles for an image having high resolution, based on a magnification request; and that can suppress wasteful data transmission. <P>SOLUTION: Coded data obtained by dividing an image into a plurality of tiles and hierarchically coding are transmitted fragmentarily by a server, in response to a request of a client. The server calculates the proportion of the display region of the image requested by the client with respect to the whole, selects coded data divided by a large number of tiles, if the proportion is not larger than a predetermined value, selects coded data divided by smaller number of tiles in another case, and extracts a portion equivalent to the display region and transmits the region to the client. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
