PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for storing and reading information stably and with high density in and from a carbon nanotube. SOLUTION: Information is stored in the carbon nanotube by performing a step for preparing a surface modified carbon nanotube material (4), a step for immersing the surface modified carbon nanotube material (4) in a solvent (2) containing a dopant generating intercalation and a step for storing information by applying an electric field to a desired point of the surface modified carbon nanotube material immersed in the solvent to change optical characteristics of the desired point.
