PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chop cutter constituted so that the pawl tip of a pawl member is not moved in an arcuate state but smoothly moved in a vertical direction and, even if the end part of a log is small or has a round shape, the pawl tip is thrust in the log without being slipped to prevent the log from being pushed out in the direction of a cutting part by the surface part of the pawl member. SOLUTION: When a handle part 22b begins to fall downward, a grip part 22 also begins to revolve downward centering around a bearing 22a. By this constitution, the connected pawl member 21 is also pushed downward, connected to a connection member 31 at its base end to be changed in its angle, allowed to fall almost linearly and vertically thrust in the log M to be certainly held to a thrust state by holding teeth 26a.
