The exhaust gas recirculation system (1) has two throttle elements which are assigned to a common actuator (8). The throttle elements are adjustable and the first throttle element is arranged in direction of flow behind the exhaust gas return line (5). The second throttle element is connected to a gear (9) which is joined to an actuator.
