摘要 |
The invention, a method of producing methane-containing gases, is similar to that claimed in Specification 820,257, but the particulate nickel-alumina catalyst contains an oxide, hydroxide or carbonate of an alkali metal or of an alkaline earth metal preferably within the range 0.75 to 8.6% calculated as metal on the combined weight of metallic nickel and alumina. Specific examples are KOH, K2CO3, CaCO3, Ca(OH)2 and the oxide, hydroxide and carbonate of magnesium. Two methods of preparing the catalyst are described, the percentage of nickel preferably being 28 to 75 calculated on the combined weight of nickel and alumina. The method is applicable to gas mixtures consisting predominantly of paraffinic hydrocarbons containing an average number of carbon atoms of 4 to 15. Pressures up to 25 atmospheres are mentioned, and the proportion of steam to hydrocarbons may be between 2: 1 and 5: 1 by weight. |
