<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical detection method capable of detecting a contaminant penetrating between a tip part of a solid immersion lens opposed to a body to be irradiated and the body to be irradiated e.g. an optical recording medium, to provide a solid immersion lens suitable for the same, to provide a condenser lens using the same, to provide an optical pickup apparatus and its control method, and to provide an optical recording and reproducing apparatus and an optical recording and reproducing method. <P>SOLUTION: The body to be irradiated is irradiated with two or more near field beam spots S1 and S2 and a surface state of the body to be irradiated is detected by at least one beam spot S2 of the beam spots. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
