PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide support mechanism and a damping mechanism which are easily manufacturable and assembleable. SOLUTION: This component has a waveguide suspension 2 to an acoustic waveguide 4; and a damping element 6 having a module type structure, to be used together with the waveguide 4 for generating a torsional strain wave and a longitudinal strain wave by transmitting a current pulse. The damping element 6 for preventing reflection of an acoustic strain wave has a sleeve 27 for enclosing the waveguide, and a mechanism 29 for applying a pressure to the sleeve 27. The sleeve 27 damps gradually acoustic strain wave energy along the length of the waveguide 4 enclosed by the sleeve 20 of the damping element by applying a pressure to the waveguide 4, and prevents reflection of the acoustic strain wave. The position of a return conductor 1 is determined according to a response from a measuring system, and ringing of a signal received from a pickup coil 13 is suppressed to the minimum.
