PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction control device for a railway vehicle capable of presuming and grasping the friction state between a wheel and a rail at real time and suitably controlling the friction state. SOLUTION: The friction control device 0 is provided with a means 9 for detecting vertical force P acting on the wheel at a rear side in an advance direction of a railway vehicle truck 1; a means 8 for detecting forward-backward force T acting on the wheel 2; a calculation means 7a for calculating friction coefficientμbetween the wheel 2 and the curved rail 3 by the detected vertical force P and the forward-backward force T; and an application control means 7b for comparing, based on curve information, the calculated friction coefficientμwith a preset threshold value, determining whether emission of an friction adjustment agent is needed, and issuing an instruction to a friction adjustment agent emission device 13.
