This invention features methods for treating diseases associated with mutations in the CFTR gene by administering PPAR agonists, specifically PPARgamma, PPARalpha, and PPARdelta agonists, PPAR inducers, and/or antioxidants. Also disclosed are screening methods for identifying therapeutically useful candidate compounds.
