To provide a disk device for electrically discriminating the number of disks inserted thereinto, to control its mechanism on the basis of the discrimination result so that a stable disk insertion/ejection can be realized while reducing damages to the mechanism of the disk device and to the disk. In the vicinity of the disk slot of a casing (100), there are disposed roller members (101, 102) which contact with a disk (300) inserted into the device, for carrying the disk to perform the insertion and ejection of the disk. Also provided are a lever member (109), which can engage with a lever engaging portion (102a) of the roller member (102) and can turn on a pin member (109a), and a push switch (110) for detecting the displacement of the lever member (109). In case the disk (300) is inserted into the device, the roller member (102) is displaced in the upward direction of the disk (in the direction A of the drawing), and the lever member (109) is displaced in the direction H of the drawing so that the thickness of the disk inserted into the device is detected by detecting the displacement of the lever member (109) by the push switch (110).
