摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode base material for a fuel cell which can solve flooding near a passage outlet due to gas spreading to the whole electrode base material. <P>SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a porous electrode base material includes the steps of performing paper making of carbon fiber paper by making a polyacrylonitrile carbon staple fiber into a principal component, then impregnating the phenol resin, laminating two or more sheets of the obtained carbon fiber paper, hardening the phenol resin by a heating press, and further calcining this. In case of paper making this carbon fiber paper, low carbonization yield fiber is included as 20% or less of carbonization yield for a diameter of 30-150 &mu;m. Consequently, after the calcination, comparatively big hole by the degradation of the low carbonization yield fiber is formed, and the gas permeability is improved in a surface direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
